Home Health Agency Valuation by VMG Health

The post-acute home health care industry is comprised of a wide range of health care services and businesses, including home health care agencies, hospice providers, durable medical equipment (“DME”) suppliers, infusion and oxygen services, and private duty businesses.  A home health agency may specialize in one or more of these areas.  Not surprisingly, the predominate demographic across all home health care services sectors are seniors.  However, wide variation can exist depending on the specific area of focus within the industry.  For example, a high risk obstetrics home health care operation would cater to a very different demographic than a hospice provider.

As of 2015, there were over 12,000 Medicare certified-home health care agencies, as well as over 4,000 unique Medicare certified hospice providers. The home health care market has been estimated at over $87 billion, including Medicare certified providers as well as non-Medicare certified providers.
