John Harris, based in Philadelphia, is a Managing Director for the Strategic Consulting division at VMG Health. With over 35 years of healthcare experience, John combines consulting expertise with hands-on management insights. He has worked extensively with hospitals, health systems, ACOs, clinically integrated networks, physician groups, and health plans. At VMG Health, John focuses on strategic planning, physician-hospital alignment, and value-based care. 

Before joining VMG Health, John was a Managing Director at Veralon. Notably, he founded Advance Choice, Inc., a pioneering national service providing hospitals with emergency access to patients’ advance medical directives. He has also held senior operational roles in healthcare facilities and served as a health policy fellow for the U.S. Senate’s Finance Committee. His consulting work includes advising on strategic issues, facilitating planning retreats, and supporting mergers, acquisitions, and affiliation strategies. 

John holds an MBA in Healthcare Management from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from Dartmouth College. A sought-after speaker and educator, he is a faculty member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, teaching courses such as Health Systems of the Future, Physician Network Strategy, and Strategic Planning. John is also the co-editor of the Healthcare Strategic Planning, 4th Edition, published by Health Administration Press.
