The U.S. Department of Justice announced on December 1, 2016, that various parties, including physicians and executives, affiliated with Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas (FPMC) have been charged in a federal indictment with various felony offenses stemming from their payment and/or receipt of approximately $40 million in bribes and kickbacks for referring certain patients to FPMC. The scheme occurred over a four-year period from 2009-2013 and involved over $500 million in patient charges and $200 million in collections received by FPMC. The indictment names each of the 21 defendants charged.
FPMC was a physician owned hospital that was an out of network facility with its payers.
